Everything We Know (so far) about the 30. Gaufest in 2025

In 2025 The Enzian Volkstanzgruppe of Newark, Delaware & the United German Hungarians will host the 30. Gaufest at the Delaware Saengerbund, on July 3-6!

As members of the Gauverband Nordamerika, our two clubs participate in the Gaufest celebrations regularly and have each hosted a Gaufest previously in 1997 and 2003 respectively. The Gauverband preserves and perpetuates the cultural heritage of Bavaria (Germany) and Tyrol (Austria) including its customs, ethnic costumes, language, folk music, and folk dances.

Today’s Gaufeste are four-day biennial gatherings of the Gauverband Nordamerika held in odd-numbered years; host Verein varies. Typical events include Heimatabend (performances of traditional song, dance, and music), Mundartmesse (traditional church service done in Bavarian dialect), Welcome and Farewell Dances, Festabend (Saturday banquet), Ehrentaenze (honor dances), Festzug (parade), Festtag (Sunday festival), Preisplatteln (prize dancing), Jugendeinzelplatteln (children’s single-couple dancing), Workshops, and socializing.-from www.gauverband.com

The Enzian Volkstanzgruppe is a Bavarian Volkstanz and Schuhplattler group founded in 1968. The EVTG also has an active Kindergruppe and a band of musicians that play as a larger Blaskapelle, and sometimes as a smaller Tanzlmusik group.

The United German Hungarians of Philadelphia and Vicinity is an organization that exists to serve the welfare of its members, and the general community, in the realms of Culture, Social Recreation, and Sport. The club was founded in 1910 as the Banater Männerchor by ethnic Germans that hailed from the former Kingdom of Hungary. The Cultural Group was founded in 1965 and the Schuhplattler group in 1976.

The 30. Gaufest is being designed by our steering committee as a more traditional festival to be held in an impressive festival tent out of doors. Of course, the event will also utilize the beautiful grounds of the Delaware Saengerbund and the spacious clubhouse in Newark, DE, (pronounced NEW-ark) .

The Delaware Saengerbund and Library Association
In a community known as Ogletown, the Delaware Saengerbund or DSB has been in existence since 1853. The clubhouse includes a large hall, library, game room, a children’s room, board room, commercial kitchen and much more. Outdoors, the grounds include a large parking lot, soccer field, covered pavilion and dance floor, and a modern playground. They also have a traditional Maibaum featuring the insignia of a variety of their sponsored groups.
