The boys kicked off the spring portion of the United League season with a home game against Lighthouse. The conditions at Temple Ambler were perfect and it gave both sides a chance to knock the rust off. Both teams were still getting into the game when a Lighthouse central midfielder picked up the ball just inside the attacking half. He beat a couple guys and took a chance from about 30 and he picked out the upper corner. Not sure he’ll ever score a better goal.

We rebounded well and started to get into the game. We were dominating possession but not creating many chances. Lighthouse was barely crossing into German Hungarians territory and when they did our backline handled it well. Just before the half we played a hopeful ball over the top. The Lighthouse defense and keeper made a mess of it. Chris Manful seized the opportunity. He pounced on it and knocked it into the net. Its always nice to get a goal right before the half, especially when trailing. 1:1 at the break.

The second half was more of the same. U.G.H. with most of the possession but not creating much. The referee wasn’t helping us much as a handful of bad tackles went unpunished. This of course only led to more. Eventually one of the fouls came back to hurt them. They fouled Nick Jachwak at the top of the box.

Up stepped Josh Yurasits to curl one into the top corner which left the keeper planted. 2:1 with a few to go and we saw it out for three points. It wasn’t perfect, but its nice to get back out there and get the win to start the spring.
