Over the last few years I’ve been happy to receive boxes from Erwin Stielow and from the Reiter family. These contained their collections of issues of the Monthly Progress. I also was passed some issues by my predecessor Emily Fricker when I took over. Some of these were given to her by the founder of the Monthly Progress himself Ted Kereczmann.
These all add up to quite a lot of paper and they didn’t have any clear organization. This past week I finished organizing the copies I have in my home. (There are more at Werner & Lisa’s house I haven’t moved to Delaware yet). The box filled now with manila folders by year ranges from 1973 through 2016. Some interesting tidbits surfaced during the process. I plan to share some of these in the future when appropriate.
In the age we live, digital processes has lost us the art of the photo collage. But collages following important events were a staple of our past Monthly Progress and our Souvenir program books. The below collage showing our members at the 1997 Gaufest in Newark, DE. It was printed in the August 1997 issue. (see the full issue here)
Below that is a collage from our 2003 Gaufest in Philadelphia. That one was printed in our 2005, 95th Anniversary book.
As preparations are being made for the 30. Gaufest in July, we hope you enjoy looking back at the memories of two great past events!
