From Fest Season to Cup Season for our Major Men

Festival season is in full swing, leaves are changing, and a chill in the air could only mean it is cup season for our Major team. It’s been a while since we picked up any hardware, but we’ve been steadily improving over the last couple of years so anything less than a trophy will be disappointing. EPSA has decided to play the Robert M. O’Neill Amateur Cup* in consecutive weekends starting Sunday Oct 31st until a winner is decided. If weather allows, the Frank Giancroce Open Cup** will start in early December and resume in the Spring if it’s not completed.

In the 1st Round of the Amateur Cup our Major team will face Inter Vidas on Sunday Oct 31. Inter Vidas is new to the United Soccer League Major Division this season but is one of the most organized groups in the area. Composed of mostly alum from Drexel Univ. Club Program, Vidas puts out three teams including two playing in the Philadelphia CASA League. Hopefully, you can come out and support us!

* The EPSA portion of the National Amateur Cup is named for Robert M. O’Neill. While the national competition is not named after an individual, the trophy presented to the national champion is a silver cup named the “Fritz Marth Trophy.”

** The EPSA portion of what was the USASA Open Cup is named for Frank Giancroce. While the competition is no longer held nationally by USASA, Regions 1, 2, and 3 compete still in the “Championship of Regions,” which includes the “Werner Fricker Open Cup.”
