Match Report – Women end Fall Season with win over Blur FC, by Steve Paul

Another unknown opponentĀ and facing the unexpected. This team was quite different in that they came out with a very fast pace attack which wasĀ faster than ours and I was just hoping to weather the storm for the first 20 minutes to adjust accordingly which our team accomplished. After equalizing the time of possession the Blur caught us on a fast break which caused us to be caught and pushed a ball in at the 38 minute mark of the first half which ended the half at 1:0 in favor of the Blur. Kacey Cerenkowski suffered a knee injury before the end of the half and was unable to return with the extent of the injury currently unknown. The second half started out with the German Hungarians on theĀ front foot and putting the pressure on. We knew that they could not keep the same pace as they applied in the first half. We controlledĀ the half from the start with constant pressureĀ which is what we have accomplished all season. We ended up leveling the score with a two on one break with Corrine Renninger & Jaz Bishop passing up field. Jaz had the final pass at the 82 minute to even the score. With U.G.H. searching for the game winner as the clock ticked down to the end Brandy Barrowcliff took a shot from the left flank 25 yards out that beat the Blur keeper in the the upper ninety at the 89 minute mark. The game and Fall season ended 2:1 in favor of U.G.H. The win puts us in third place within the 10 team league.

Our defense which doesn’t get mentioned that often has been stellar the entire season with Erin Dolan, Michelle McFadden, Mikaela Malofiy, Cloe Smith anchored by Nicole Palmer along with our keeper Cassidy Dawson.

Once again we cannot have the success that we have without our fan base traveling with this squad and the team is very thankful for all the support.

The team would also like to thank the Women’s Auxiliary for their generous donation for the new team uniform kits this season. The team looks great and really appreciatesĀ the donation.
