Recently heard from Frances Hellmann, the daughter of our late president, Frank Kirsch, and the late Theresa Kirsch, president of our Ladies Section under our former constitution. Our present Women’s Auxiliary would like to thank Frances for her donation and wish her a speedy recovery on her shoulder operation.
Congratulations to our own editor, Michael Fricker, who received the Rocco Amoroso Award for Fair Play. This award has been presented yearly by the US Adult Soccer Association’s Region I since 2012. Michael is the first individual to receive this award. Previously it was awarded to teams from Eastern PA, NY, Maryland, and Connecticut.
Congratulations to the Dan Galgon Family, who recently purchased their first house. Their new home is in Willow Grove. Alex Blank and Jenn Lineman, who will be married in the Fall also purchased their first home in Glenside while Werner Fricker III purchased a home in Ambler. We wish them all well. Point of interest – These three men have been friends since they were toddlers, and all recently celebrated their 30th birthday within the last 6 months.
The Chris Deely Family also moved to a new home recently. It must be contagious!
On our Dance Group and Friends recent trip to Europe, the approximate 25 people group traveled together most of the time, visiting Germany, Austria and Italy. Some ventured off on their own for a special visit to various areas. Werner and Lisa Fricker and family traveled to Serbia and Romania to visit the cities and villages of their ancestors in Banat and some of the various memorials commemorating the German’s death and expulsion from the area. While they were there, Betty and Michael Wagner also took a trip back home and the two families were able to meet up for dinner one night in Kikinda!
Our General Secretary, Nichole Blank Deely, recently underwent knee surgery. She is to stay off her leg for a while, but she’s been seen hopping around. Take care! We wish you the best.
Our deepest sympathy to the entire Deely Family on the recent death of Chris’ maternal grandmother, Kathryn McGinley. “Kitty” as she was known, had 6 children, 30 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. She was 96 years of age at her death and lived a full and and happy life. Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Andrew Church in Newtown. Burial was at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
Our deepest sympathy to the family of Josef Schnell, especially to his daughter, Linda Schnell Simon and her husband Bill and their children. Joe was a soccer player in his youth and played for our team in the early 1950s. Joe was born in a German settled town in the Ukraine and during WWII they were forced to relocate to a farm in Northern Germany. They lived there for seven years and then in the 1950s the family began immigrating to the US. Joe arrived here in 1952. Joe’s, who was 83, funeral Mass was celebrated at the Maternity of the B.V.M. Church in Philadelphia. Internment was at Sunset Memorial Park.
We were all shocked at the recent death of Heidi Weyershaeuser at age 58. Heidi is the wife of Andrew J. Weyershaeuser, the mother of Danielle Towers (James), and Andrew R., daughter of Stefanie and the late Alois Petrasovits, and the daughter in law of former president Andrew and Regina Weyershaeuser. Heidi was active in many areas of our organization especially in the food area during the early 2000s and was a recipient of our Ehrenwuerdig pin in 2010. Her funeral was held at the DiGiacomo Funeral Home and the internment was private. Heidi was much loved by her family, friends, and members. She will be missed by all!
