Stiftungsfest (Founder’s Day) at German American Society in Trenton, by Anna Martini

On a rather fine Sunday afternoon in mid-August our dance group had the pleasure of performing at the German American Society’s Founders’ Day.  Even the most forgetful among us will recall that this was the location of last year’s Eastern Region Trenton Treffen. Founders’ Day is much like an anniversary dinner and is a “newer” event for the Trenton area organization. Needless to say, we were very happy to have been asked to take part.

The day began with the sound of the referee’s whistle kicking off a friendly soccer match between the United German Hungarians and the German American Kickers (GAK) men’s teams.  The exciting game had lots of dramatic moments before ending in a 3:2 win for the U.G.H. side.  Congrats to all!

The festivities then continued inside where a delicious buffet, a well-stocked bar, and the melodious sounds of our very own Heimatklänge awaited attendees. As was already stated, our wonderful dance group was on hand too, much to the audience’s delight, and I think it’s fair to say our dancers helped make the event even more special.   All agreed it was a most enjoyable celebration which I’m sure will continue to grow in popularity in coming years.

Thanks to all who attended and thanks to the German American Society for having us for what turned out to be a most enjoyable mid-summer afternoon.
