Earlier today we posted an update about our soccer teams and their matches this week and weekend. But it’s an even busier weekend for the German Hungarians.
Our friends from Delaware are hosting the delegates and the officers of the Gauverband Nordamerika at their clubhouse, the Delaware Saengerbund this weekend for the Dau Delegates Meeting. Folks will be arriving over the next three days for this important weekend concerning all things “Gau“. A select group of our officers and members of the dance group will be attending to represent our club. In addition, our President Janet Malofiy serves as Secretary to the Gauverband and has many responsibilities this weekend. Michael Fricker was again appointed to the Nominations Committee which will be managing elections to take place Sunday.
All of that is of course taking place at the location for the 30. Gaufest to be held in 2025, hosted by our club and the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe. The goal is to maintain the culture of the traditional North American Gaufest with a focus on providing an affordable weekend for families. We know the weekend in July 3-6, 2025, will be filled with camaraderie, dance, music, and educational workshops while enjoying the good food and friendly hospitality that will be offered within a clubhouse atmosphere. Our two clubs have previous Gaufest hosting experience that has been invaluable in the planning process. Meetings and planning are underway, and more information will be shared this weekend at the Delegates Meeting.
Saturday is also the annual Maifest at Brauhaus Schmitz, so a hearty group of our dancers will be joining Die Heimatklaenge and the folks from Brauhaus on South Street in Philadelphia. Our dancers love this event because it’s like shaking the cobwebs of winter off, being outdoors, dancing and sharing with each other.
When a weekend is jam packed with soccer, dancing, business, and camaraderie, it is often when the German Hungarians have the most fun!
