As we anticipated this match was going to be a challenge since the opponent has quite a history in this league.
Reigning and repeat champions and currently undefeated we knew that we would have a difficult match. Fortunately, our game plan started off perfectly with our high pressure, high paced start awarded us with a corner kick four minutes in. A perfect corner by Lizzie Eisele with a solid header from Brandy Barrowcliff started the scoring off early and put us ahead 1:0 early in the match to set the tone. As the play evened out in the half with numerous chances by both teams, but the play of both keepers kept the score 1:0 at the half. Senza Nome came out fast and furious in the second half for the first 20 minutes which kept our defense busy with our squad standing tall keeping the game under control. Once play evened out we started our press midway through the half and with our pressure in their box we earned a PK due to a hand ball from a shot by Lizzie Eisele. Maggie Daeche stepped up and hit a side netting PK to put us up 2:0 at the 73rd minute. We adjusted our defense for the last 15 minutes to prepare to close out the game and to hold their strong offense which we did except for a scramble in front of our net they pushed late score at the 82nd minute. Our keeper Cassidy Dawson was making save after save and our defense held our opponent in check for the last 8 minutes which got us a hard fought 2:1 victory.
