Pat and Anna Walls welcomed a baby boy on August 4. Theodore Augustus Walls joins Martini family cousins Gemma & Grant Scheideler, and Leo Malofiy as grandchildren to Hans and Joann Martini. Iโm sure Hans is happy with many options for a successor to that booming voice.

That Odyssey of a article about our travels in Europe is living up to the name. Donโt worry, like the Greek hero itโs still on the way. Be patient and loyal as Penelope as you wait! To those authors still polishing their sections, send my way ASAP!

The dance group had a nice weekend despite the rain in Boonsboro for the Augustoberfest.
It was a delight to host the group from Esslingen at the start of their trip across the country. They enjoyed a walking tour of Philadelphia a stop to peruse and purchase at Walmart. Then they put on a great show at Schwaben Abend II. More (hopefully) on that in a later article.
Reports are a number of veteran German Hungarians played in a pickup match at the Tag Der Donauschwaben. Someone was caught remarking, “Wow! that’s a lot of gray hair.” We kid, but the truth is it was good to see some familiar faces of friends still kicking!
A group is heading off to Chicago for the Landestreffen this weekend as it is Labor day weekend already.
Those staying local intend to patronize “Cannstatters” as the locals say. Tables for the club are reserved for Sunday! If you cannot attend Sunday, feel free to attend any time during the weekend. Festive Trachten attire or club shirts are encouraged. Our Tracht Shop will be operating as well. Want to volunteer? Contact Susi!

LEARN ABOUT IT: Our Tracht, by Hans Martini

When I first was courting my wife I went to an event at the Saengerbund in Delaware. They have it around Christmas called Tannenbaum Nacht. What would I wear? The Enzian VTG dancers wore fest tracht which can be called โSunday Bestโ for a Bavarian trachtler. So I wore with pride my Banater Tracht or โLeiwlโ with black slacks and leather soled shoes. As a child we always saw our men in this uniform whether it was Kirchweih, Oktoberfest, Trachtenfest, or any important festival at one of our fellow clubs. In 2010 we changed the patch over the heart from the 1950s Sport Club keystone to the brand new Shield. To have your Leiwl on was a statement of membership in the club but also brotherhood to the other men wearing it. Times and festival fashions have changed. And I am ok with this, to an extent. I was impressed when earlier this year the gentlemen from Trenton wore their vests to an event like the Heimatklรคnge Anniversary. I hope to inspire our German-Hungarian men to wear this more often, with pride in our club and our heritage. We don’t have to wear it everywhere all the time, but just a little more frequently than we do now would be nice. Just my two cents!
