President’s Report at the AGM – March 23, 2022

Overall, 2021 was a good year for the German Hungarians!

The past few years have all been very different for a number of reasons. For many years we struggled financially, we left 4666 and more recently we experienced a COVID year or two, yet we all work together and are determined to be successful on the field or dance floor as well as culturally and socially. It is very important to all of us who are so heavily involved.

It has been my goal to keep our members engaged and very active no matter where we are, where we dance, and where we play soccer. We are currently using the following locations for dancing, soccer and events : The Phoenix Sport Club, Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein, Vereinigung Erzgebirge, Bensalem Country Club, Temple University Ambler Campus, and the Proving Grounds as well as the Austrian Village. They have all welcomed us and meet our needs.

The Club is the people not a building or location. We can thrive anywhere.

Over the past 110 years we have been very fortunate, and I believe participation and involvement is the best way to experience camaraderie and success.

A push to increase membership has been a goal and can be tough especially with COVID and the so many offerings these days, but we are adding new members and these folks want to be a part of our group socially. I feel confident that we are on our way and our membership spans a very large age range which is amazing. In addition, we have had excellent participation over the past 2 years and for this I am so thankful and feel so blessed.

In 2022 we will participate in a few national and international events:

  • 28. Gaufest in Atlantic City NJ at Harrah’s’ – July 7-10
  • Donauschwaben Treffen in Trenton NJ – September 2-4
  • Opening Parade & Festivities of the Munich Oktoberfest – September 2022
    •  Including an expanded tour and vacation to meet with friends from Hungary, and touring homes towns of many of our families and club members.

We are always open to new opportunities. In the best interest of our members and our organization. I will always embrace conversations with friends and other clubs and organizations regarding the hosting of events and traveling opportunities. In addition, participating in local club events can offer our members a new, cultural, soccer, or social experience.
