Sometimes a year can fly by so quickly, before you know it it’s almost over! With a little over two months left, however, we have lots of fun, informative and exciting affairs still in store for 2023.
SOCCER:
As long as the weather cooperates the Major Men and Major Women have United Soccer League matches scheduled out to December of this year. Schedules are available at www.unitedsoccerleague.us.
This Sunday 10/22, the women take on Lower South at the Dolphin Swim Club at 12 noon.
The men are set to play at Erzgebirge in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, this Saturday, 10/21 at 2pm. The team is also in the midst of the now round robin style EPSA State Amateur Cup. They won their first match over Kensington 2:1. The Next round is scheduled for 10/29. The boys face Vidas FC and as with the other matches in this cup, the State scheduled all cup matches at neutral turf fields. Our 10/29 match is at Bryn Athyn at 5:00pm.
Region 1 also recently announced that Peter Pinori of ENY would take over as the regional cup commissioner and that Ron Burnett of EPA would be assisting on the committee. To these new leaders we wish you well and pray for your humble success. First rounds of the regional competition begin in April and those will be here before we know it. New this year, each state is allowed two regional entries expanding the regionals to 16 teams.
DANCING AROUND:
Our dance group will be performing at Telford Train Station this Saturday! Following in early November, they will participate in Dances by the Danube: A Cultural Workshop. Hansi Mueller & three assistants are traveling to the United States from Timișoara, Romania. Mueller is a certified folk dance instructor teaching zeppl polka, & traditional & choreographed folk dances. The workshop will take place on November 7 & 8, 2023 for dancers ages 12 & up and with previous dance experience. They will be held at the Cannstatter V.V. Checkout two videos of dances our members learned from Hansi. (Video 1 – Video 2)
Then on December 9 they will be downtown at the Christmas Village for a performance! Christmas is coming and the goose just might be getting fat.
BUWE WAS HAM’R HEIT?
The sun shines brightly but with a cool fresh breeze the day feels crisp and new. Outside you can tell the fall is here and with it the blessings of the almighty. There’s a fragrant smell of rosemary which jogs your memory to the past.
You can hear the music, steady, sure, and quiet at first but growing louder as you get close. Cheers from young voices and ones young at heart bring smiles to your faces. These people are gathered for the Kirchweihfest at the Phoenix SC on November 26, and you will not want to miss it!
CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH US:
Our club loves to celebrate together, and Christmas is no exception to that! A chance to dress up, enjoy a dinner together and of course some great entertainment from our Children’s Group. The performance of this group at our Christmas Party goes back to the earliest days of the Cultural Group in the 1960s. It’s important that our most youthful innocent members provide this entertainment to the membership at this event. In doing so they learn themselves about club life, and the real meaning of the holiday. Their Nativity scene is traditional and reminds us older folks about why we really gather for Christmas. The event will take place Friday, December 15 at the Vereinigung Erzgebirge.
SILVESTERABEND:
Get your family and friends together to bring in the new year! We are encouraging our members to attend the New Year’s celebration at the Delaware Saengerbund! Of course the event will be on Sunday, December 31st, with doors opening at 7:00pm. Music is by the David Bentz Band. Please consider attending and dress appropriately in business attire or casual Tracht. (Please leave your jeans at home!) This will be a great way for us to celebrate the new year with our co-hosts of 30. Gaufest in 2025, the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe.
$70 per person or $130 per couple includes a cocktail reception, dinner buffet, dessert, Brotzeit at midnight and includes beer, wine, and soda. Cash Bar for any other beverages. Seating is reservation only: Please contact Teresa Vikari at 302-766-0522 or tme1202@msn.com.
