The Christmas Village in Philadelphia allows visitors to experience a traditional European Christmas Market in the City of Brotherly Love. LOVE Park is transformed each year with a wide array of vendor huts selling food, drink, and gifts. The weekend of December 9th and 10th they deem as German American Weekend at the Christmas Village. We had the pleasure to perform again this year in between the performances from G.T.V. Almrausch and Auerhahn Schuhplattler Verein! It was so nice to see our friends during this time and fill the afternoon with traditional dancing.
We were lucky and had beautiful weather this year, not too cold and the sun came out from behind the clouds. The Christmas Village usually has big crowds of visitors on any weekend, but when the weather is nice, it means an even larger crowd. When our group gathered by the stage before our performance, there was already a large crowd watching and clapping for G.T.V. Almrausch. While we waited for our time slot, some grabbed a drink from the Beer Garden or a mug of Glühwein. At 2pm it was our turn to take the stage right in front of the big Christmas tree, we had a solid group made up of our adult and children’s group to perform our two short sets for the crowd that had gathered!
After our performance, my family walked around to view all the vendors to grab a few last minute Christmas presents. Some of the group took off towards a local bar for some holiday refreshments while they were in the city.
Performing at the Christmas Village was a lovely way to kick-off the holiday festivities!
