In Memoriam: Imre “Jimmy” Pack

OCTOBER 20, 1929 โ€“ NOVEMBER 6, 2023

On November 6, 2023, Imre “Jimmy” Pack passed away just a few weeks after his 94th Birthday.

An German-Hungarian immigrant to Philadelphia, it was no doubt he would find a place to play soccer as well as a place to belong in our club.

Pack played for our soccer teams including at the 1950 match against Hamburg. After his playing years finished, he was a dedicated administrator within our club coaching youth and adult teams. He served as youth soccer coordinator for a time as well. In the early 1970s Pack coached the Major Division Team taking them all the way to be US Amateur finalists in 1971.

Jimmy Pack was awarded with the 50 Years of Sports & Soccer pin in 1972, and the 75 Years of Soccer Honor pin in 1997.

The Philadelphia Old Timers Soccer Association, (today known as the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame) inducted Jim Pack in 2005.

In addition to his work in soccer at our club, Jimmy pack served on many committees including the Fahnenweihe committee in 1994. He and his wife Mitzi were also Silver Flag Sponsors of our beautiful club flag.

Pack served both on the Executive Board, and the Board of Governors.

In 1980 he was honored for his Dedicated Service to theย United German Hungarians, with the gold Ehrenwรผrdig pin.

As a young man Jimmy participated in Kirchweih at our club.

Anyone of us who know Jimmy & Mitzi Pack also knew how much they loved to have fun. They enjoyed the camaraderie and attending the events with friends at the German Hungarians.

They also often traveled along with the dance group to Gaufest and other regional and national events.

Having moved to Florida, in recent years we didn’t see the Packs quite as often as we once did, but when we did you could sure bet there were many smiles an much laughter.

Mitzi passed away in 2020 due to heart complications at the age of 86. Jimmy now rests beside her at Mary at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, FL.

To Jimmy & Mitzi, thank you for sharing a part of your wonderful lives with the German Hungarians!
