‘Tis the Kirchweih season and it’s always nice to attend Kirchweih at other clubs to see how they celebrate.
Werner and I were lucky enough to be invited to Carpathia Detroit’s celebration by Karin Schulz.
Werner and I and Werner III headed to Detroit on Friday, October 18th and after a safe flight we headed downtown to the Convention Center at Huntington Place. A surprise visit to a political rally. We won’t get political here, but we heard that backstage the candidate was heard saying, “ The Kirchweih is the greatest event of all, you will never see anything like it again.”
On Saturday we took a trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan. This area is considered Michigan’s Little Bavaria. First stop was Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland. An amazing store with any kind of Christmas decoration imaginable. We headed to Bavarian Inn Restaurant and had a great dinner trying out their famous chicken. Salads and sides were served family style and waiters and waitresses dressed in lederhosen and dirndls.
On Sunday we went to Karin’s church, St Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica. They had wonderful music at the service and singing by the choir.

Th event was held at the Polish Century Club in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
We were entertained by the Carpathia Brass Band who played and sang some great German music.
A delicious dinner was served and we sat with our friends, Mike and Irene Talan, John and Mary-Ann Huth and Tim and Jeanne Reiter. It was great to catch up with all of them.
The dance groups performed beautifully especially the Kinder Dancers taught by Karin Schulz and assisted by Kimmy Furtah. Then it was time for the auction of the Rosmarein Strauss. The Carpathians hold an auction where participants hold up a dollar bill in the air and the auctioneer counts up the money and sets a timer and if the timer goes off while you are giving your dollar, you win the Strauss!!!
Well guess what?? Werner and I won the Strauss!! A year of good luck for us!!
We danced with the Strauss and it was a great evening.
