New red checkered shirt, CHECK! Red club dirndl, CHECK! Dancing shoes, CHECK!
It was a crisp, sunny fall morning and the German Hungarians had a big day to prepare for. Brauhaus Schmitz South Street Oktoberfest on September 16. We arrived and settled in around 12:30 PM and believe it or not, the crowds were already forming. Beer lovers, fall enthusiasts, some HK superfans, and a TON of young adults gathered in front of the stage for the band to start at 2PM. Doug, the owner of the beloved beer hall kicked off the day with a traditional keg tapping. Then started the Stein Holding contest. BIG SHOUT OUT to Connie Reiter for winning the women’s side of things with a strong 4 minutes and 10 seconds!! Congratulations, Connie!!

The Heimatklänge started off with a bang, playing all of our favorite Oktoberfest party tunes. The dance group performed two sets about 25 minutes long at 3:00 and 4:30.
It was a blast sharing our culture with Philly at this huge block party!
Check out this video we put together!
