Dancing Around: Springtime Bauernball, by Susi Hartmann

Spring has sprung, or has it? The current weather is making it hard to believe, but Schuhplattlers coming out of hibernation gives us hope!

Among the events that took place this past weekend, Connie Reiter and I were more than happy to help our friends, GTEV Die Gemütlichen Enzianer, celebrate their annual Bauernball. The event was held in the ballroom at Plattduetsche Park in Franklin Square NY. The hall was full of people ready to enjoy a meal of tasty German specialties, their favorite libation and to dance to the sounds of Die Heimatklänge! (Editor’s note: I heard they are pretty popular!) As is customary at these events, guests are also treated to dance performances by their hosts as well as visiting clubs. Dancers from other areas in NY, NJ and CT were all well received by those in attendance.

For Connie and me it was nice to reconnect with the many friends we have made throughout our years of involvement in the German cultural community. It was a pleasure to see a full dance floor and, most especially, the next generation of Gemütlichen Enzianer and their friends having fun dancing the night away!

Connie, myself and all the German Hungarian Schuhplattlers look forward to welcoming our friends and returning the hospitality when we see them in a few months at the 30. Gaufest!
