Among Our Members – September 2025

Among Our Members has been a dedicated “column” in our news for many a year. The anecdotes we share under this title are always about our members, but sometimes also about our friends. Have something to add next time? See the end of the article for how to submit!

Joey Reiter & Randi Finkel were engaged on April 30. Where did it happen? Joe got down on one knee in Epcot at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Where else could it have been? Joe was quoted on social media. He said, “I think I knew almost immediately that Randi [Finkel] and I were meant to be.”
Congratulations Joey & Randi, we hope it’s a happy and magical wedding and marriage!

Leo Andrew Malofiy was born on June 24 to proud parents Sasha & Chrissy Malofiy. He was 6 lb 7 oz and 19 inches long. Leo is the grandson of Janet & Sasha Malofiy and Hans and Joann Martini. Leo has many aunts that are excited and happy to have him.

Michael K Fricker turned 5 years old on July 14 this year. He celebrated his birthday with family and friends on July 20 at the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball game. Michael and cousins Kurt Blank and Joey Galgon even played games between innings down on the field with mascot “Rocky Bluewinkle.” Happy Birthday Michael K!

Helena Marano spent the summer in Bamberg Germany with cousins from the Montag family. She went paragliding in Tirol, Italy. Spent days at the pool visited the towns of Eppingen, Nuremberg, Erfurt. She learned a little bit of the language and visited lots of family.

Allysa Reiter & Johnny Ferrell were married in a beautiful ceremony on July 18. The wedding took place at Normandy Farms in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. The fellas in the bridal party all donned boots and crisp blue jeans. The wedding featured club favorites Bigg Romeo. House drummer and father of the bride John Reiter even sat in with Franco and the gang for a song or two. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell. Up next for the Reiter’s wedding schedule? Kristen & Mike.

From July 25 to 27, Karen David, Werner Fricker III, Susi Hartmann, Stephen Killian, Stevie Paul, Joe Reiter, and Karin Schulz went on a trip to Milwaukee. They attended the Germanfest on the lake. They spent time with our Heimatklaenge, Midwest friends in Schuhplattler, Donauschwaben, and Sport. They also listened to and met new friends from the flash-mob famous VoxxClub.

From August 22 to 24, Werner Fricker III also joined in the festivities this year with Karin Schulz and the gang from the Alpine Blast Trio.  The German American Festival is held at the grounds of Oak Shade Grove where we attended the 2009 Toledo Gaufest.  They enjoyed the Glockenspiel, great live music, schnitzel sandwiches (had to be first in line before they sold out!), sauerkraut balls, ice cold refreshments, and various dance performances from the multiple local clubs.

Karin and Werner rounded out their summer festival tour in the Midwest once again. They gathered at the Mansfield Liederkranz. Nick Walter and Evan Wolz joined them. Together, they celebrated with other German-Hungarians and Donauschwaben from across the USA and Canada. The weather was mild for a Labor Day weekend festival and they were glad to catch up with life long friends and make new ones as well. The “homemade” Hungarian sausage was one of the highlights of the weekend, as always. But the schnitzel, goulash and chicken did not disappoint!  We look forward to seeing everyone again next year in Lake Villa-Chicago for a competition year!

Morgan Schulz was engaged to Nick Adams on August 3. Morgan is sister to Allyssa Schulz-Fricker. Recently she joined our dance group. She continues to be a member, dancer, and the Jugend Vortänzerin for the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe. Morgan performed in our club’s Ehrentanz, the Fahnenländler at the 30. Gaufest this year. Morgan works as a teacher in Delaware and Nick is in the Agricultural field. Best wishes to Morgan and Nick!

Happy Birthday to Evie! Evangeline Noel celebrated her Sweet 16th birthday on August 6. Evie is a member of our dance group along with dad Jason. She just recently won 3rd place in Einzel girls age 12-15 at the 30. Gaufest. She also competed for the first time on our Gruppen Preisplattler team and received a silver medal this year as well.
