Report From Our AGM, by Michael Fricker

Meetings can seem a dull, business minded affair. While we did conduct business on Wednesday, March 22 at the Austrian Village, our AGM could not be described at all as “dull.”

I will not be reporting on each and every item that was on the agenda or giving a review of the financial reports. Those that would have liked to know that should have attended the meeting!

No instead I would like to highlight certain specific announcements, and moments that happened that evening which I believe show the strength of our club at its current state.

“I haven’t been to one of these meetings in a long time, but I have to say, I am so impressed with all of you people. Thank you!”

-Katie Palnik

Mrs. Palnik’s words echoed for me after the meeting and gave me the inspiration for this report. The German Hungarians, the people that make it up impress me time and time again, and I know many of us feel this same way.

Susi Hartmann gave an informative report on the past year for our Cultural Group. Important to note were the inclusion of congratulations to our President Janet on her election as secretary of the Gauverband Nordamerika. Susi finished with an exciting announcement that Emma Walter will take on the role as Chair of the Cultural Group moving forward. Sofi Walter will be assisting her.

Janet thanked Susi for her years of service in this role and for her guidance and continued work on the Cultural Group committee.

The Board of Governors announced also the election of their new Chairman of the Board of Governors, Joseph S. Reiter. We wish him luck and know he will take the reigns with care and leadership.

Respectfully Submitted,

Michael N. Fricker
