President’s Address – August 2025

Dear Members,

As we pass the halfway mark of 2025, it’s clear this year has been full of energy, connection, and celebration. The first six months brought a vibrant mix of social gatherings, Mid-Atlantic Schuhplattler events, anniversaries/Stiftungsfest, a Fahnenweihe, Schlachtfests, Spring soccer matches, and more.

Of course, much of our focus was on preparing for the 30. Gaufest—and what a success it was! From the beautiful dances and perfect bands to the grand food, ideal weather, and unmatched camaraderie, it was everything we dreamed of and more. I was especially proud of how seamlessly everything came together, thanks to the incredible dedication of our volunteers. You were amazing!

Now, as festival season kicks into high gear, we’re excited to continue supporting our local German clubs. This year, we’ll be attending Tag der Donauschwaben, Cannstatter Volksfest, the VE Sport Fest/Oktoberfest and the DSB Oktoberfest in Delaware. We’ll also be represented at the Donauschwaben Landestreffen in Mansfield, Ohio over Labor Day weekend. All are welcome and tables will be reserved for our members and friends at each event.  A special event this year is the German-American Steuben Parade in NY on September 20 where we will attend the festivities and march up 5th Avenue with 50 people.  How exciting!

As we transition into fall, our soccer program is changing. For many years, our Men’s team thrived under the leadership of Jason Karasow (Head Coach) and Werner Fricker III (General Manager). Their dedication shaped a successful era, and we’re deeply grateful for their service. Due to challenges with player recruitment and commitment, both have stepped down.  After a dedicated attempt to revive the team there was no other choice than to currently suspend the Men’s Major Program. This was a difficult decision, and while it’s disappointing, I’m hopeful that the Men’s team will return at some time and perhaps in a new form.

In the meantime, our Women’s team will be taking the field in early September once again as part of the Tri-County Women’s League. Their home games will be held at Temple University’s Ambler campus. Keep an eye out for their schedule and come cheer them on; they play with heart and won’t disappoint!
