On Tuesday, August 26, 2025 1. Vorplattler Alex Blank announced our new 2. Vorplattler is none other than Sasha Malofiy Jr. The update took place at dance rehearsal held at the Phoenix Sport Club. A round of applause from the room quickly ensued. Blank also thanked Werner Fricker III for his years of service. He said, “He has done an excellent job throughout the years, and it is very much appreciated.”
Alex Blank was appointed the 1. Vorplattler in 2013, receiving the honor and the club pin from Ehrenvorplattler John Reiter. Shortly thereafter Werner Fricker III was appointed as his second and has served alongside Alex since that time. He is also the past Fahnentraeger for our club. He continues to dance with our group including most recently as part of the Preisplattler team at the 30. Gaufest. Thanks Werner for your past and continued efforts!
President Malofiy had this to say via social media,
“Thanks Werner Fricker III. Your dedication has been super over the years. Good luck Sasha Malofiy Jr. Work hard and represent U.G.H. at the highest level that you can!!”
Sasha Malofiy Jr. was born in March of 1994 to Sasha and Janet Malofiy. He grew up in Horsham, PA with younger sisters Mikaela & Kyra. Family has always been close by. Most of our members have known the Fricker family for many years all lived in the Horsham area. He grew up close to cousins that also take part in the club. These include but are not limited to Alex Blank and Werner Fricker III.
Sasha attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School also in Horsham, and then Hatboro Horsham High School. He has a Business Marketing degree from Philadelphia University having graduated in 2017. Malofiy works today as a Account Manager at Everdriven.
Sasha and his wife Christina Malofiy (née Martini) live in North Wales. Their son, Leo Andrew Malofiy, was just born this year on June 24. Leo has already attended his first Gaufest, and is often watching in the audience at dance practice rehearsals.
His first major club event occurred shortly after he was born in 94. He attended our Fahnenweihe in July of that same year. Joining the dance group at age 3, Sasha has participated actively in all aspects of our dance groups. He was famed for his role as the titular shoe maker in “The Elves & the Shoemaker.” He also delivered a legendary performance as the Angel of the Lord in the Nativity scene at our Christmas Program. In the 2000s Sasha participated in the first Mid-Atlantic Jugend Einzel competitions and workshops. He has been at various times the Geldherr at our Kirchweihfest. He also carried the Strauss at the special Kirchweih held at the Trenton Treffen.
Sasha also played soccer at our club in his youth and adulthood. He was a member of the famed “Fire” team in the 2000s playing with them in tournaments and showcases. He signed full time with the Major Team for a few seasons as a young adult. He finished his adult career as a leader in the Reserves group. Sasha participated regularly in US National Donauschwaben Tournaments. He likely had more appearances in that competition than any player in our history. He was a part of the team that won the Mike Talan Wanderpokal in 2021 in Akron.
Sasha first participated in our Gruppen Preisplattler team at the 2013 Gaufest in Ohio. He has been on every team since then. He wears two bronze medals and recently added a silver at the 30. Gaufest this year. Malofiy is also the Fahnentraeger of our club having been appointed in 2022. He oversees all aspects of our flag besides carrying it for events, parades, and festivals. Care, maintenance, and storage is also handled by Sasha and its important to him as a symbol of our club. The only flag more important to him is the Star Spangled Banner itself.
He served in the past as the Grounds & Fields chairman at our club. Sasha received the Gold Ehrenwürdig in 2020.
Sasha told us that his favorite dance to perform is the Amerseer while his least favorite is the Figurentanz.
