Michael with a K is a boy and likes superheroes, and adventure films. Like his uncle Werner III he also likes things like Ninja Turtles. And you can hear him sing along with Alex, “He’s your friendly neighborhood spider!”
I like these things too even if my cousin Christopher likes to tell me that Marvel Comics movies are better than DC.
DC? I like Batman.
Anyway, before Christopher was born I saw Iron Man, the movie and I followed along with Marvel movies as close I could until Avengers Endgame. We recently began them again watching with Michael K.
We were watching Captain America: Civil War the other day and I smiled and had an idea watching this scene:
“I don’t know what’s in this, but it is not paprika.”
-Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch
Though the film character hails from the fictional “Sokovia,” the comic books (at least according to Wikipedia) note, Wanda Maximoff and family at one time living in Novi Pazar, Serbia. Though 4-5 hours away from the areas our founders come from, Miss Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch would know the real stuff from imitation.
Though Vision’s attempt to cheer up the Scarlet Witch is cute, the facts he states, that he’s never eaten any food and his Amygdala is synthetic would lead to a paprikash that is well, lacking.
Still I enjoy this scene even if a pinch is almost never enough paprika. What the scene is, however is a second entry in the pop cultural references to paprikash and paprika and I knew just like Dracula I had to record it.
Is there a reference to paprika, goulash, paprikash, schnitzel or your favorite traditional recipe in your favorite pop cultural media?
Let us know!
